Austin-Bergstrom International Airport: Operations tour directing the flow

A behind-the-scenes look at several core operations of Austin's international portal, investigating passenger flow, baggage handling, and overall airport operations, along with its history and future master plan.
Activity Level: This is a walking tour through an active site. Close-toed shoes are required. Hard hats will be provided by ABA for tour areas that require these. All areas are wheelchair accessible. Due to security requirements, onsite registration will not be available. State Issued Photo I.D. is required at check-in.

TxDOT - Materials and tests division - Materials laboratory tour

This lab conducts materials testing for QA and research for materials used in highway construction, from aggregate to zinc-rich paint. Lab sections include Soils and Aggregates, Traffic Materials-Coatings-Metrology, Cement-Concrete-Steel, Bituminous Materials (Hot Mix Asphalt and Asphalt Binders), and Structural Materials Inspection.
Activity Level: This is a walking tour through an active site. Close-toed shoes are required. Shorts are highly discouraged.

Circuit of the Americas F-1 racetrack tour

Wednesday, June 14, 2023, | 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm

$50 EB / $50 ADV / $65 LATE

The Circuit of the Americas F-1 Track is one of 11 F-1 racetracks in the US, and 1 of 69 worldwide. The tour bus will travel along the access road adjacent to the track along most of the track's 3.4-mile length. Stops will be made at Turn 1 (133-foot rise) and Turn 11 (hairpin turn) to allow attendees to view the track from outside the bus. After a tour of the track, the bus will enter the paddock area and visit the racetrack control center for a talk with track safety personnel. The racetrack garages will be visited before returning to the bus for the last stop - which is the 251' tall COTA Tower. From the COTA Tower observation deck, the entire track can be seen as well as other noteworthy scenery. The Tower provides stairs and an elevator.
Activity Level: Low, some walking and stairs. No open-toed shoes are permitted.  Individuals 18 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. 

Capital Metro North Operations Center and the METRORail mechanics' shop

The tour will include the new Capital Metro North Operations Center from which employees monitor both bus and MetroRail operations. Attendees will also visit the MetroRail mechanics shop (across the street) which is the location where repairs, maintenance and other operations are conducted to keep MetroRail trains in great condition. MetroRail operates the Swiss Stadler GTW diesel-electric light regional railcars.
Activity Level: This is a walking tour through an active site. Close-toed shoes are required.  A safety vest will be provided to each visitor prior to entering the MetroRail mechanics' shop. State Issued Photo I.D. is required at check-in. 

Austin boardwalk, Lone Star River boat & Mexican Freetail bat flight tour

Wednesday, June 14, 2023 | 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$75 EB / $75 ADV / $90 LATE

The tour will be conducted from a paddle-wheel double-deck boat that will provide tour attendees with a view of the Austin City skyline from the Colorado River. The boat will then travel downstream for a tour narrative given by Al Godfrey - architect of the Austin Boardwalk, and Adam Koransky engineer with Jacobs on the design and construction of the Boardwalk. The boat will then move back upriver near the Colorado River Bridge for the evening bat flight before returning to the boat landing on the south river shore. Refreshments will be served.
Activity Level: Low. High Heels are not permitted on the boat.
